‘Brahmi Vati’, yet another Ayurvedic BM based polyherbal formulation being used for convulsions and seizers, further shows fortifying and even healing effects of BM. In a research on BM, conducted by Mishras and Jha of School of Pharmaceutical Sciences, IFTM, Moradabad and Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences, BITS, Ranchi established anticonvulsant, anti-schizophrenic and memory-enhancing activities of ‘Brahmi Vati’ by studying anti-oxidant conditions of brain predicting levels of malondialdehyde (MDA) and reduced glutathione (GSH). The researchers established that Brahmi displays significant anti-oxidant properties that lower levels of Acetylcholinesterase (AChE) activities were considerably in brain tissue that were treated with Brahmi Vati.
Apart from convulsions, seizures and schizophrenia, Ayurvedic parctioners also use ‘Brahmi Vati’ for hypertension, tremors, and anxiety and even in certain types of fevers. Main ingredient of Brahmi Vati is not only BM; however, it does contain many other herbs such as shankhpushpi, Vacca and Maricha etc.
